nyc-based duo jasmine golestaneh and eddie cooper write songs through a telepathic kinship thevve developed since they started making music together. we have these sort of unspoken criteria when we re writing music. we never really need to explain what that is but we both know when it s missing or when we ve hit it. the pair, aka tempers, are set to release their fundamental fantasy ep via the vinyl factory on 24th february. creating an emotional and tonal tension of sensual and mechanical impulses, their brand of dark electronica sets haunting song writing to a sinister disco beat, pop melodies floating in an almost industrial soundscape. it follows the bands 2015 debut full-length services. fundamental fantasy is about exploring the creative scenery of romantic illusions. our need for them, how we justify them to ourselves, that moment when the imagined story line collides with reality. the ways we fictionalize people to fit into the narratives we have about love - to reflect our own beliefs, virtues and flaws. it is about celebrating fantasies swelling and getting undone, so we can pick up the pieces and craft new ones that serve us better tempers musically, fundamental fantasy is an evolution in both song writing and process, while still tracing a clear line to their earlier output. many of the eps melodies were born of live improvisation, which helped them create an instinctive, natural immediacy within their electronic arrangements. the cover of the ep depicts the duo on the volcanic island of stromboli, where they performed at the volcano extravaganza, an art and music festival curated by the vinyl factory.it is a perfect landscape to mirror the mood of ‘fundamental fantasy. a seemingly idyllic place that is isolated from the outside world.

marvin horsch debuts on berlins film with an ep of exquisitely produced, cinematic electronica. the cologne based producer develops the colourful house found on previous work for the dorfjungs la-bel, with three playful compositions that draw as much on jazz and krautrock as more contemporary strains of alternative electronic music. opener omnisession 1 marries a beautifully shifting organ with live drum work before segueing into the glorious softness of sun after rain, a rich synth solo drenched in tape hiss. closer negobebo 2 wraps up the ep an energetic, looping recording replete with staccato drum-machine strikes and warm, wet verbs carrying a spirited lead across its six minute duration. an honest record, open and expertly executed fukushisha is an admirable addition to the film cata-logue.

the young roman artist emiliano morini, hidden in the shadows, reaches his individual project second goal. after debuting with his first ep in the electronic music scene, which also included a collaboration with ed frimann (an already known character of the roman scene) emiliano shows increased maturity through this refined and elegant work. a not necessarily dancefloor oriented straight cash, combined by extremely pleasent sounds, makes his last ep also usable for a home listening session. the ep consists in 4 tracks, each one clearly mirror of a sensitive and deep soul: -deep fusion- is a high tension piece with a submerged but impetuous roaring bassline. -ocean- that could be almost called a jazz track, full of human presence because of a seem live played ride and a lead that sounds like the result of improvisation. on the b side, we find instead a slightly more -club- dimension, without anyhow the loss of musicality. -techno mod- is a tribute to the best acid techno surrounded by an amniotic sea of pads. -vinyl track 2a- portically closes the work with loads of hypnosis and melancholy sounds enclosed in the same box.

claremont 56 has always had close links with japan’s vibrant music scene, with founder paul ‘mudd’ murphy making annual trips for djing and live performances. it’s perhaps unsurprising, then, that the label’s latest limited-edition vinyl release comes from japanese outfit okinawa delays, a project founded by producer, dj and long-time friend of the label takeo.
some of you may already be familiar with okinawa delays thanks to 2016’s hana, a cover of a popular 1995 j-pop hit featuring original vocalist satoko ishimine. the singer is a well-known performer in her native japan, having released a number of acclaimed records on toshiba emi throughout the 1990s.

an epoch is defined as an extended period of time typically characterized by a distinctive development or by a memorable series of events, and scott hansen, leader of the band tycho, has named their new album epoch with that in mind. the last installment in a trilogy, epoch is the culmination of more than a decade’s work that has seen the band evolving and maturing through two sublime releases dive (2011) and awake (2014), and developing from featuring hansen as a delicate solo performer into the iconic frontman of a powerful multi-layered live band performing on the world’s largest stages.

after an ep on creme organization off-shoot jericho one as dj plant texture, dona basile now assumes his dona alias for a new ep on the main label. entitled the v.g.p sessions, it features four new cuts from the italian, with three of them being dj pt mixes. up first is a live cut version of energia , a bristling electro track with globular bass and coarse hits. turbulent but full of synth based serenity, it is a fine start. cigarettes (djpt mix) is rugged and broken, with glossy idm synths and corrugated drums all loosely arranged into something prickly and unsettling. the deads at twelve (djpt mix) then gets even more fucked up, with rusty synths and blown out drums making for a dystopian house groove that will likely soundtrack the apocalypse. last but not least, nr. 13 (djpt mix) mixes up detroit synths, wild acid, heavenly chords and chopped up, buried deep vocal samples into something that will fire every synapse in your body. this is outlier stuff from dona that sounds like little else.

klamauk is back and ready to drop their first release of 2017 with this excellent cut from moony me. the austrian artist has already turned heads with a string of quality records dropping since 2012 and this current release is up to his usual high standards channelling deep, sample driven house vibes. the ep opens with “city of storms”, a knowing nod to soulful chicago and a lovely iron curtis rework that seriously does the business. over on the flip we have “puzzle shuffle” which packs lots of energy with the main hook, and will surely be a hit on the dancefloor. for “glass jungle chant” moony me uses a lighter touch with intricate live percussion, lovely chords and a squelchy sub bass.

invaderband are a garage/artrock band assembled in 2012 in derry, northern ireland by mancunian singer, guitarist and songwriter adam leonard who enlisted local musicians to voltage-enhance his dystopian post-punk songs.
leonard has a prolific history as a musician with an extensive back catalogue of solo and collaborative work, and was an occasional member of one of stewart lee’s favourite bands, the owl service. he was also the winner of the uk city of culture 2013 resonate award for best song. invaderband’s lead guitarist / synthmeister is chris mcconaghy aka our krypton son. bass frequencies are provided by gavin mccartney (of here comes the landed gentry, the murder balladers) and drums are handled by rion mccartney (on the album) and john goodman (live).
invaderband’s debut single the implausible man was issued on record store day 2015 and the follow-up, attack of the pod people arrived in december ‘15. the singles were picked up by local, regional and national bbc radio, with the latter making it onto the bbc 6music recommended playlist.

star creatures first single of 2017 starts with a hot 2 sider. 2 slamming peak hour floor fillers. these lean more on the chicago boogie vibes than his previous work which is why star creature was quick to grab them. modern rnb at its finest. live drums, bass, keys with excellent vocals.

phonica records is extremely proud to unveil the next release on its special editions imprint the stunning debut album vuduwave by niños indigo. niños indigo is the alias of audiovisual artist valeria hernandez. developed over the course of a month, the album was recorded in hernandezs home country of chile and recorded in a single week, resulting in a flowing, organic yet otherwordly listening experience. valeria explains: this record is a compilation of influences that have been inside me a long time, they keep coming back, afro drums, hindu instruments, candombe, psychedelia in south america. the rhythm of what surrounds me, the lake, the forest near where i live, the calm that surrounds it, the love of my friends and daughter. all of these feelings are what i like to put in my songs, a reminder to value the simple, to seize the resources that i have and to try and free myself of whats on my mind. originally released on digital and cassette label discos cetaceos in 2014, its a recording that truly deserves to be given a new lease of life on vinyl
